The free first-five-notes experience is anonymous. Student practice and microphone audio stay on the device. A parent account is optional and is used only to buy the paid full range on the website and restore that website purchase in another browser or on iOS.

Your microphone

The “Play the Note” step asks for microphone access so the app can hear the pitch you are playing, in real time, on your device. The audio is analyzed as it happens and immediately discarded. Nothing is recorded, nothing is saved, and nothing is sent anywhere. If you prefer not to grant microphone access, a tap-to-self-check option works without it.

Your progress

Practice progress is stored only in your browser’s local storage on your own device. We never see it. Clearing your browser data erases it.

How you found us

If you arrive here from one of our links, your browser remembers which link it was until you close the tab, and we count the arrival once so we can tell which posts help teachers find us. That count says nothing about the student and nothing about what you practice. Nothing further is sent while you practice. If you later open the unlock page, the link name is included with that page’s activity. What your browser remembers is stored on your own device and it is not a cookie.

Optional parent accounts

A parent or guardian can create an account to buy the full range. We store the parent email address, a Firebase account identifier, and the products that account owns. The password is handled by Firebase Authentication and is not visible to Virtunity. This account information is used only for sign-in, purchase access, security, support, and restoring access on another browser or in the First 5 Notes app.

Payments and service providers

Website payments are processed by Stripe. Virtunity receives purchase status and transaction identifiers, but not the full card number. Firebase provides parent account sign-in and entitlement storage. Resend may deliver transactional purchase or password reset email. These services are contacted only when a parent uses account or purchase features. If something in the free practice path fails to load, the app sends an anonymous error report to our own server so we can fix it. The report contains no personal information, no account detail, and no practice data.

Deletion and retention

A signed-in parent can delete the account from the website unlock page or from the account section in the iOS unlock screen. This removes First 5 Notes access and its web entitlements. The sign-in itself is deleted when it is used only for First 5 Notes, and retained when it is shared with a Virtunity account. App Store purchases remain with Apple and can still be restored. Stripe transaction records may be retained when needed for accounting, refunds, disputes, fraud prevention, or legal obligations.

What we don’t do

No student accounts. No practice analytics: we do not record which notes a student plays, how far they get, or when they stop. The free path sends two things and nothing else, an anonymous error report if something fails to load, and a single anonymous note when someone first arrives so we can tell which posts brought them. Neither contains anything about the student. No advertising. No tracking cookies. No sale of personal information. No microphone recordings or uploads. Parent account and purchase information is not used for advertising or tracking.

Children

This app is built for beginning band students, including children. The free student experience does not ask for a name, email, or account. Any purchase account must be created and managed by a parent or guardian, not by the student.
